Author Interview: Drew Sera

Today I am happy to introduce author Drew Sera.

fragileWhat’s the best advice you’ve received as a writer?

The best advice I’ve received as a writer has easily been to write what I want. When I first started writing I worried about content and it not fitting into the box of “rules” or “requirements.” I worried that a publisher may not pick it up because of “this” or “that.” By writing exactly what I want, it ensures me complete satisfaction with the content.

What genre(s) do you write in? Tell us about your books.

I’m writing contemporary erotic/romance. My book series is called The Everett Gaming Series and currently consists of five books with a possible sixth and seventh book to follow. The series will chronicle the journey of a male Dominant, Colin Everett, in the BDSM lifestyle. The dark series will focus on the difficult road that Colin will venture down as he becomes immersed in the life of a tortured, young submissive. The cover art for The Everett Gaming Series will feature the talented and gifted photography of Depraved Eros. Depraved Eros has a natural ability to capture emotions with a camera lens and each photo is a captivating work of art.

What book are you promoting right now? What is it about?

Right now I’m promoting book two in The Everett Gaming Series, “Belonging.” This book continues down the road of the characters that were introduced in book one, “Fragile.”

Tell us about your main character? What makes her so special?

My main female character, Sydney, can be best described as a young woman who despite adversity she still trudges on and tries to make the best of things. She looks for the silver lining and is grateful for that she has.

Do you have any advice for someone starting out as a writer?

Write what you love! Get it all down first and worry about the formatting later. Don’t try to write something to fit and confirm with others. When you start writing to other’s specifications, you lose some of the creative spark.

I totally agree with this! Such good advice. I think people get bogged down early on or try to edit as they go and lose what they were doing. I’ve been guilty of it myself and it never ends well.

How do you market your books?

Right now I’m relying on social media, friends and people that have read the first book for marketing purposes.

What new projects are you working on or are excited about right now?

Right now I’m finishing up the editing phase for book two,  “Belonging” and once that is released on May 3rd I will begin the editing phase of book three.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I just wanted to say a little bit about my friend, the photographer of the book covers for my series. He goes by the name Depraved Eros and his work is widely followed and appreciated in the fetish/kink community. He works incredibly hard and made the covers works of art.

The cover art is beautiful and evokes a lot of emotion — very striking.

Thank you Drew for being here today and sharing your insights with us.
