Author Interview: Nicole Thorn

Today I am happy to have Nicole Thorn on my blog.

nicole tWhat book are you promoting right now? What is it about?
The book I’m promoting right now is called Bring Me to Life. It’s about a girl who wanted to be a witch, so she decided to do a spell with her friends that ended up killing her. The spell gave her and her friends magic, and they used it to rip her soul out of hell and put it back in her body. But her soul belonged to hell, so an assassin gets sent to kill her again.

Tell us about your writing process. How do you fuel your writing?
My process is mostly trying not to take too many breaks to play Candy Crush and failing miserably. I write best at night, so I just try and get through the day so I can work properly.

What’s the best part of being a writer?
My favorite part is planning it out. The story can be anything and there are a million different paths to take, each one making a totally different book. I like the panic and excitement of picking one and going with it.

What is your favourite scene in your book?bring me to life
There’s a part at the end where the main characters are in a tree, talking about the situation they’re in. I had it all planned out since almost the start. It’s a sweet scene and really, really sad. It goes well with the tone of the story.

Tell us about your main character? What makes her/him so special?
The POV is split, so I have two. The first is Anna, who is the witch come back to life. She’s very plucky and sarcastic. Very walking dead… sorry for the pun, but it’s true. Then there’s Ezra… he’s hard to explain. He’s very cold and bitter, like Anna. I like Ezra because he’s a huge jerk. He’s awful, but he’s kind to the one person that matters. Mostly…

What do you read? What are your favourite books and who are your favourite authors?
My very favorite books are the Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin. They are so dark, but they characters are funny and that’s some of my favorite stuff in a story. Dark but funny.

Who or what encouraged (or still encourages) you in your writing?
My writing partner, Sarah Hall. She started me writing and she keeps me going when I’m sure everything I make is garbage. She’s dealt with more than her fair share of phone calls with me saying that the story is a mess and everything is wrong. But she talks me down and says all the right things. There’s not a chance in hell I could do this without her.

What do you do when you’re not writing?
I’ve been watching a lot of video game Let’s Play videos on YouTube… I’m terrible at playing, so I just watch other people do it. I also watch a lot of Netflix with the previously mentioned Sarah Hall. She just laughs when I yell at the TV, instead of getting annoyed with me. If that’s not love, I really don’t know what is.

what lies beneath. jpgWhat new projects are you working on or are excited about right now?

At the moment I’m finishing the second book in a trilogy that the first book was just contracted for. It’s coming out later this year. I’m also working on a couple Sarah related projects. We have a lot of books we write together.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?
It was a hard choice picking which book to promote here, since I have two babies out in the world right now. I just want to say that Bring Me to Life is my favorite thing in the fifty books I’ve done. It’s very special to me, and I really hope that anyone picking it up loves it like I do.
